Did you hear about recent Rock and Roll (2006) Hall of Fame induction? For the 21 years now the hall of fame has been honoring the crème de la crème of Rock and Roll Royalty at a big party in New York, even though the hall itself is in Cleveland for some reason that I can’t remember now. This year the Inductees included Lynryd Skynryd, Black Sabbath, Blondie, Miles Davis and The Sex Pistols.
Here’s the real story of this years ceremony. Lest we forget that Rock and Roll is all about rebellion, Johnny Rotten reminds us in no uncertain terms. In a letter read at the Ceremony by the founder of Rolling Stone magazine Rotten said among other things that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a urine stain.
You are anonymous as judges but you are still music industry people. Were not coming and you are not paying attention. You’ve rejected our nomination for three years running and now you want a piece of us?
Allegedly part of the dispute is over the display of an original handwritten copy of the lyrics to God Save the Queen that have been on display at the Hall for some time. Rotten doesn’t dispute the authenticity of the document but would like to see it to verify it. So far the hall of fame has refused; probably scared he would leave his own urine stain on it.
And when you think about it, isn’t that what Rock and roll is really all about?
