Now don’t get me wrong. 2005 had some good stuff going for it. But as a human being I remember the bad stuff with great clarity while the good stuff just seems to be sort of a fuzzy haze.
And the bad stuff that I remember about 2005 I will carry with me to my grave. And so it is with just a few pages left on my desk calendar for this year that I set out to come up with some new year’s resolutions.
A quick search on the web gives me the top ten New Year’s resolutions. They are:
1)Â Lose weight
2)Â Stop smoking
3)Â Stick to a budget
4)Â Save more money
5)Â Find a better job
6)Â Become more organized
7)Â Exercise more
8)Â Be more patient at work/with others
9)Â Eat better
10) Become a better person
It seems to me that lose weight, exercise more and eat better all fall under the same heading-become healthier. So that’s number one on my list.
I don’t smoke so that one’s done. So now I’ve peeled off four and made my list just 6.
Stick to a budget and save more money sound like the same thing to me. Cross one more off and call it financial responsibility.
Find a better job? Unless they start paying for not coming into work I think I can cross that one off.
Become more organized. Can’t argue with that one. My desk often looks like Hurricane Katrina just left. Gotta work on that one.
Be more patient at work/with others. I must admit I am doing better at this. At least the desire to choke the life force out of others is diminishing. A little.
Ok. I can do better there.
Be a better person. It seems a little subjective to me. Maybe if I do all the other stuff that one will just follow.
So here is my new improved list.
Be healthy
Be financially responsible
Be more organized
Be more patient with others
Wow, pretty good-I got the list to four from ten. Now I think I will add two more.
Ask for and accept help.
Be grateful
So there is my list. My challenge of course is to turn these from words on the page and in the air to action. I would say I’ll keep you posted but I think you will keep me posted. You always do.
